WELCOME TO THE YORKSHIRE INSIDER
Hello, I’m Keith — the person behind The Yorkshire Insider. I’m a local lad who has spent years walking the Dales, wandering the Moors, and hunting down the best fish and chips the Coast has to offer. My aim is simple: to give you honest, no‑nonsense advice so you can experience the real Yorkshire. No fluff, no marketing gloss — just practical tips, lived experience, and the kind of straight‑talking guidance Yorkshire folk are known for.
I was born and bred in South Yorkshire and now live in North Yorkshire, which means I’ve seen this county from both sides of the map. Over the years I’ve travelled to almost every corner of it, discovering hidden paths, tucked‑away villages, quiet coves, and those special places visitors often walk straight past. Yorkshire rewards curiosity, and I’ve spent a lifetime following that instinct.
Photography is one of my biggest hobbies, and it shapes how I explore the county. Through the lens I’ve captured the rugged peaks, dramatic coastline, and the soft, rolling calm of the valleys. It means the guides I create are not only practical and honest, but visual too — because Yorkshire deserves to be seen as well as described.
Now retired, with a background in heritage tourism, I understand what visitors want, expect, and appreciate. I also volunteer at a local Tourist Information Centre, helping travellers plan their days out, choose routes, and discover places they might otherwise miss. That experience keeps me connected to what real visitors ask, need, and struggle with — and it directly shapes the guides I create here.
As a Yorkshireman, I value fairness and good value for money, and you’ll see that reflected in my reviews. Every place I recommend has either been visited by me and my wife in the past eight years, or comes highly praised by trusted friends and locals.
⭐ Why Trust Me
I’ve spent decades exploring Yorkshire on foot, by bus, by train, and by car — not as an influencer, but as someone who genuinely loves this county. Everything I share comes from real experience, not guesswork or AI‑generated lists.
• Local knowledge you can rely on Apart from a short spell in the South West, I’ve lived in Yorkshire all my life. I know the shortcuts, the quiet spots, the hidden gems, and the places that look better online than they do in person.
• Honest, no‑nonsense advice If something isn’t worth the money, I’ll say so. If a walk is tougher than it looks, I’ll tell you. Yorkshire folk don’t sugar‑coat things, and neither do I.
• First‑hand experience Every recommendation is based on places I’ve personally visited or comes from trusted locals who know their patch better than any guidebook.
• Photography‑led exploration I explore Yorkshire with a camera in hand, capturing real landscapes and real moments. My guides are shaped by what I’ve actually seen and experienced.
• Visitor‑focused guidance With a background in heritage tourism — and hands‑on experience helping travellers at a Tourist Information Centre — I understand exactly what visitors need: clear directions, realistic timings, accessibility notes, and value for money.
• No hype, no fluff Just proper Yorkshire advice to help you plan a trip you’ll genuinely enjoy.
Everything I’ve learned over the years — every walk, every viewpoint, every hidden gem — I’m now passing on to you. This is my county, shared with you the way Yorkshire should be experienced: honestly, warmly, and with proper local knowledge.
